Care home eye test FAQs
How are care home eye tests funded?
Most care home residents qualify for a free NHS-funded sight test — being aged 60 or over, or having a qualifying condition or benefit — and residents who cannot leave the home unaccompanied qualify to have that test at the home. We check each resident's eligibility and handle the NHS paperwork; a private test is available for anyone who doesn't qualify.
What does the care home need to provide?
Just a quiet space or the resident's own room, and a member of staff we can liaise with on the day. We bring all the equipment needed for a full clinical examination.
What records does the home receive?
A written outcome for every resident seen, ready for your care files, plus a recall schedule so re-tests are never missed.
Can residents' families be involved?
Yes — with the resident's or home's agreement we can keep next of kin updated and involve them in choosing glasses.
